France - Bikes & Pippa
Having had such a good time cycling in France, and since Pips had long had a yen for driving to France, we combined the two and took the bikes with the car and went cycling and camping and exploring and eating and strolling and eating - oh, did I mention eating?
Date of event: 8/19/2009
The dining terrace
And so there is where we ate, underneath the arches, one of three tables (there were very limited places). One a group of eight noisy dutch, the second a quite and interesting looking group of five pilgrims amongst which was our dutch guy, and then our table for two.I can't quite remember what we ate but it was great. Hold on, Pips is reminding me: tomato salad, followed by lamb and sauté potatoes
with vegetables, followed by goat cheese, followed by yoghurt and then rice pudding. Oh and chilled roséBy the time we'd finished it was about 9.00pm and already dark. Challenging since we had only one headtorch and one tail-light, so Pips went first with the headtorch and I followed very closely behing with the rear-light.I couldn't see a thing and Pippa not much more so it was an exciting little ride back. Slept like logs.
Sunny morning valley view
The morning was lovely, very sunny. We decided that our clothes needed a bit more drying and so quickly moved the tent, and the washing line, so that it was bathed in morning sun while we loop went and had a breakfast coffee and rode off to go exploring a little further down the valley.Further down the valley we found a nice boulangerie to buy some croissant —she had a small baby that she installed in
with the pain au chocolat while she loop served us— and we had a second coffee in the municipal campsite nearby. Not so nice and very expensive, that is to say €5.40 for two coffees strikes me as a lot.
Heading back
When we got to Sainte Eulalie we crossed the river to take the even less travelled route on the south side. This is the view back to the village.
The GR651
The route we followed was only tarmacked in parts, and so was even more tranquil.
