Here you can more clearly see the river running parallel to the canal.  At times the two waterway's merged, at more navigable points I imagine.  The bridge is a road bridge, though later I'd come across a couple of large canal bridges.

It was now about 9.30am and there were a few cyclists out and about.  Largely racing cyclists out for their Sunday morning spin.  As you can see it was a beautiful part of the country, lovely stone houses, weeping willows and the slow moving waters of the Yonne and the Canal du Nivernais whose waters were once used for transporting wood and coal to Paris.

I saw the sign to Misery but decided against it.

I can't imagine it, but by the looks of it you turn that little handle by hand if you want to lift this bridge.
