Beaune to Barcelona by bike
Since I was enjoying the recumbent so much I decided that cycling to Spain would be a good idea. I didn't have time to cycle all the way from England and so started at Beaune, just south of Dijon, in France. For two reasons: It was just over 1000km so I could do it in two weeks, and European Bike Express could take me and the bike there.
Date of event: 7/5/2009
Cheers
11.48am The owner/chef came out to say hello and also to take my photo - bike, cascading hanging baskets of flowers and cheers to you.
Glimpse of the Pyrenees
12.38am, flat and windy, at times I would turn at right angles to the wind and my speed would pick up 10km/hr - but aren't those the pyrenees in the distance? I think they are, yoohoo.
Catalans, they're everywhere
13.53pm I'd been to the camp site and got the tent up but decided to have a tour around the town where I met this happy bunch just coming to the end of their own tour. They fed me with fresh apricots and gave me a replacement flag for the bike. It was only the actual flag part they had and so I had to fit it to the lower stick that I still had. Consequently it only reached the height of my backrack - to warn dwarf motorists I joked.I was very happy to have met them though, it was nice to actually talk in a language I knew well for a change.
