Beaune to Barcelona by bike
Since I was enjoying the recumbent so much I decided that cycling to Spain would be a good idea. I didn't have time to cycle all the way from England and so started at Beaune, just south of Dijon, in France. For two reasons: It was just over 1000km so I could do it in two weeks, and European Bike Express could take me and the bike there.
Date of event: 7/5/2009
Tree lined canals
9.12am I'd been riding by the side of the canal for an hour or so and, truth be told, I was starting to get a little bored, there wasn't much change in landscape or view really, as pretty as it was; and, as you can see, it is pretty.
Wind
10.45am Having left the canal I suddenly am hitting a headwind, and the landscape is flat with little lanes with no signs. I'd met a woman on her upright hybrid who was peddling very slowly to visit her friend and she put on the right road. More than once. In fact about 4 times, it was like a variant of the hare and the tortoise, I'd pedal off, much more quickly than her but at some point, lost, or waiting to ask directions she'd come floating up again. The last time I saw her she joined in directions being given to my be a goth leather-clad quadbike rider. Thank you both for your help.
Lunch
11.25am An early lunch in fact as you can see from the time. I must look up the name of this restaurant it was a delight. Even the water carafe looked stylish.OK, I've looked it up, it was La Tour Sarrasine in Poilhes.
Lotte
11.39am, but the food looked even more stylish. This was the brochette of lotte and St Jacques, it was fantastic with the small jar of roux and the obligatory glass of crisp rosé.
