Beaune to Barcelona by bike
Since I was enjoying the recumbent so much I decided that cycling to Spain would be a good idea. I didn't have time to cycle all the way from England and so started at Beaune, just south of Dijon, in France. For two reasons: It was just over 1000km so I could do it in two weeks, and European Bike Express could take me and the bike there.

Day 11: Hippolyte du Fort to Pézenas
92km, avg 15.2km/hr, max 51.7km/hrOverall not so many hills and a good finish: flat with great tarmac, on which I could do 27-29km/hr with no trouble.
Sun's coming up
5.46am I'd had an early start as you can see. The sun's just coming up over the hills. As ever the early start was necessary because of the heat but also because it meant I had at least a couple of hours in crisp, cool, silence.
St Bauzille de Putois
The next 40 minutes or so was going through the most pretty valley, crossing a bridge at St Bauzille de Putois, and then following the river for some distance.
Traffic?
As you can see these are mean streets, a little while ago I had to swerve to avoid a beetle. The insect, not the car.
