A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.
Haltwhistle - Rowland, a walk
Although I thought I knew the area quite well I'd never been in this neck of the woods at all. Pippa and I chose one of the first sunny day's of what had been an awful August to do a great circular walk: about 9.5km
with only about 300m of ascent. Oh, and a pub right near the end for food and a pint.
Date of event: 8/29/2007
Cow
Pippa thought this cow particularly worthy of a photo.
Well lots of missing sections where I coulda shoulda taken photos: the pennine way section, the very pretty spot where we had lunch (chicken legs and couscous eaten with our fingers because I'd forgotten the spoon), the huge bull that was in a field at the aptly named Oxen Hill, the pub where we had lunch and the descent through the woods where Pippa learned how to convert a compass reading taken from the map into a direction on the ground. This was, on the other hand, nowhere worthy of note, just a pleasant sunny field.
Stile style
It was the stile that interested me the most I think, I've never seen one like this before. Pips shows it off to its best advantage.
Bridge and Beach
Just to the side of the bridge where we'd started the walk was a small sandy beach by the side of the river. It was the most idyllic spot.
