Norfolk, a short exit
Fed up with the dreadful August weather we decided to take a short exit to Norfolk which had a better forecast than the North East. It also had the advantage that that it was an area of the country neither Pippa nor I knew, oh, and it's reasonably flat. Perfect for cycling.rnrnIn fact it was near perfect all round: big skies, quiet country lanes with little or no traffic, fantastic buildings, good food and very nice people. We'll be going again.

Just one of the many houses that Pips, and I, fancy living in.
Cookies Seafood
It was a Bank Holiday Monday and we decided to take a ride to end up in Salthouses and the excellent Cookies, a seafood shack near the beach. There isn't a loo, you use the one in the pub opposite, and they don't sell booze, you get a bottle from the same pub. But on the plus side you get a whole lobster salad for a tenner.
It was a much hillier part of Norfolk, and although we'd parked only about 10km away from Salthouses and we'd allowed about an hour to get there, we were lathered by the time we arrived. In part because getting the bikes off the roof and set up took some time. This photo is after the bottle of white wine and the lobster salad and the tiger prawn salad and is where we stroll along the beach. As you can see, not crowded. The two people and the labrador just along the beach from where Pippa is walking were fishing for mackerel. Actually only the people were fishing the lab was just trying to eat them once caught.
A windmill
This shows the spacious emptiness of this part of Norfolk, oh, and a windmill in the distance which is why Pips wanted the photo.
